Sheriff Kevin Rumsey was sworn in as Sheriff of Schuyler County January first of 2022.
The Sheriff is a 1994 graduate of Watkins Glen High School. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served for 4 years where he rose to the rank of a non-commissioned officer in charge of entry level Marines in his unit. Upon being honorably discharged from the Marines, he came back home and earned a degree in Criminal Justice from Corning Community College. Kevin began his career as one of Corning Community College’s first Campus Peace Officers, where he held the rank of Sergeant. Additionally, he worked as a part time police officer with the Watkins Glen Police Department. In 2005, he began working for the Schuyler County Sheriff’s Office. He has been assigned to road patrol and has served in the K9 unit, where he held the position of K9 handler until 2017. He was promoted to Deputy Sheriff Sergeant in 2012. In 2017, he was promoted to the rank of Investigator assigned to the Department of Social Services where he works with the welfare fraud, child protective, and adult protective units. Outside of his career in law enforcement, Kevin has been an active member of the Schuyler County community.
