Sheriff Thomas Dougherty began his law enforcement career in 2005 as Deputy Sheriff for the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office. In 2010, he was reassigned to the Criminal Investigations Division and promoted to Investigator in January of 2011. In November of 2013 he was elected the 50th Sheriff of Livingston County. Sheriff Dougherty is a graduate of SUNY Geneseo, earning a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. In addition he worked in the private sector in a financial management position.
In the years between 2006 and 2010 he lead the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office in arrests. As Sheriff, he continues to find ways to make the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office efficient, effective and innovative. Sheriff Dougherty is active with Geneseo Kiwanis as well as the Cops for Kids Day. Sheriff Dougherty took over from Sheriff John York, who severed as Sheriff for 24 years before retiring.
