Thomas A. Gleason, a 36-year veteran of the Westchester County Department of Public Safety, was appointed Commissioner-Sheriff in August 2018, by County Executive George Latimer. Commissioner Gleason has held every rank in the Department from Police Officer, Detective, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, Inspector, Chief Inspector and Commissioner-Sheriff.
Among his many assignments during his career were: Commanding Officer, Support Services Division; Commanding Officer, Patrol Services Division; Commanding Officer, Investigative Services (Detective) Division; Commanding Officer, Office of Professional Responsibility and Special Investigations (Internal Affairs); Commanding Officer, Civil Division; Commanding Officer, General Investigations Unit, the Warrant Fugitive Unit and Narcotics Unit. The Commissioner oversees the Department’s 300 sworn officers, 74 civilian employees and $53 million operating budget.
Commissioner Gleason holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science/Economics from Fordham University in the Bronx, NY. He also is a graduate of the FBI National Academy 200th Session, Quantico, Virginia.
Commissioner Gleason has extensive training in uniformed patrol and investigations, including completing the New York State Police Colonel Henry Williams Homicide Seminar, the NYPD Homicide Investigator’s Course, the FBI Criminal Investigator’s Course, the NYS DCJS Police Supervisor’s Course, the NY/NJ High Intensity Drug Trafficking Intelligence/Link Analysis Course, and the FBI Sex Crimes Course. He also maintains a FBI Security Clearance.
