Sheriff Louis Falco III was elected November 08, 2011 as the 50th Sheriff of the County of Rockland. He is a lifelong resident of Rockland County and has been with the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office for 34 years. Sheriff Falco began his Law Enforcement career as a Police Dispatcher/Clerk in 1978 for the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office-Patrol Division. In January of 1980 he became a full time Deputy Sheriff in the Civil Division and subsequently moved on to the position of full time Deputy Sheriff Patrol Division in December of 1980. In 1984 Patrol Officer Falco was assigned to start the Police Division Marine Unit which took on the task of patrolling 33 miles of the Rockland County Hudson River shore line. In 1989 he was promoted to Detective and in 1996 to the rank of Sergeant. In 1998 he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and in 2005 became Detective Lieutenant. During his tenure as Detective Lieutenant he established a Video Forensic unit and a Polygraph unit which assists all local police agencies with investigations. In December 2007 he was promoted to the rank of Captain and in March 2009 he was promoted to the rank of Chief of the Police Division.

Sheriff Falco holds an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice from Rockland Community College in addition to a Bachelors Degree in Police Science from SUNY Empire College. In 1998 he graduated the 194th session from the FBI National Academy at Quantico, Virginia. In 2001 he graduated from the Mid-Atlantic Law Enforcement Executive Development Seminar (M.A.L.E.E.D.S.), Princeton University. He is also a 2003 graduate of Leadership Rockland, a program which helps leaders to better serve the community by increasing their awareness of the many facets of Rockland County. He served for many years as the President of the NYS Deputies Association and is a member of many community-based organizations in the County. He is on the Honorary Executive Board of the Boy Scouts of America, and volunteers his time for the various projects sponsored by these organizations.

During his career Sheriff Falco worked for three different Sheriffs. He has been recognized by various community organizations and has received numerous awards from police organizations such as the Elks Law Enforcement Awards Committee and the Rockland County Patrolman’s Benevolent Organization.

Rockland County has a population of 300,000 and an area of 176 square miles.
