Career: Sheriff Cole’s law enforcement career began in 1975 with the Wayland, NY police department. He served as a Non-Commissioned Officer of the New York State Police, from 1977 to 1999, and as Undersheriff for the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office from 1999 to 2008. Since 2009, he served with the Addison Police Department as a School Resource Officer. Sheriff Cole also served in the US Marine Corps, with both the 1st and 3rd Marine Divisions, in Vietnam from 1968 to 1970, rising to the rank of Corporeal.
Honors and Affiliations: Sheriff Cole received the Distinguished Citizenship Award from the Corning Elks Club, the Peace Award from the 7th Judicial District, and the Steuben County Law Enforcement Officer of the Year from Corning, Inc. He also received a Law Enforcement Appreciation Award from the Elks Club for starting an automated defibrillator Program with the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office that contributed to saving two lives, including that of the an 11-year-old.
Community: Sheriff Cole is an active member of the Corning Elks Club, the Wayland Rotary, the Cohocton Historical Society, the Bath Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Cohocton Republican Club, and the Retired Troopers Association. He has also served as an EMT with the Wayland Ambulance Corps, the Cohocton Fire Department, the Addison Fire Department, and the Bath Ambulance Corps.
