Michael J. Sposato has been the Acting Sheriff of the Nassau County Sheriff’s Department since February 22, 2008, which is responsible for the operations and management of the Nassau County Correctional Center and the Civil Enforcement Division. Mr. Sposato continues to retain the position and responsibilities of Undersheriff for the Department at the same time. Acting Sheriff Sposato has been employed full-time as a Correctional Center employee of the Nassau County Sheriff’s Department since May 27, 1994. He began his career with the Department as a Correction Center (CC) Cook. As a “CC” titled employee, he received additional training above and beyond that provided to his civilian counterparts in, among other areas: inmate supervision; inmate searches and contraband control; inmate movement; physical force; key, tool and equipment control; security procedures; and essential services. His responsibilities included the supervision of inmates and assistant cooks, who were responsible for the preparation of meals; maintaining a sanitary environment; and maintaining security in kitchen areas where approximately 7000 meals are prepared each day. Nassau County has a population of 1,300,000 and an area of 300 square miles.
