Mark E Helms, Sheriff - Cortland County


Sheriff Mark Helms retired from the CCSO in 2013 and became the Village of Homer Police Chief. The 25-year Cortland Sheriff's Office veteran has been in law enforcement since 1987. He started as a part time corrections officer, became a full time deputy in 1994, and rose through the ranks to retire as a captain. Mark’s father was an investigator with the CCSO.

Sheriff Helms lives in the Town of Scott with his wife Patricia and has a grown daughter attending college. Cortland County has a population of 49,000 an area of 502 squaremiles.
