Sheriff Carl E. DuBois is currently in his third term as Orange County Sheriff. He previously served over 22 years with the Police Department in Middletown, New York, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant. While with the Police Department, he graduated from Mercy College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice. He then worked in the private sector as a Computer Analyst with a national phone and data service provider. He also served as a Village and Town Justice for 4 years prior to being elected Orange County Sheriff. He is involved in many charities and is active in many organizations in Orange County.  Over the past 11+ years, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office has had many accomplishments.  Significantly, Sheriff DuBois has brought in over $40 million in revenue by boarding in inmates from other jails, and from Immigration Customs Enforcement.  Another $5 million is the result of vigorously pursuing grants in both the law enforcement and corrections divisions.  In December, 2005, after a short 3 years in office, New York State Law Enforcement Accreditation was awarded by the Division of Criminal Justice Services. In May 2007, the Corrections Division received accreditation by the New York State Sheriffs’ Association, and was the first county jail in New York State to receive accreditation from the American Correctional Association.  That was followed up in 2009 by accreditation from the National Commission of Correctional Healthcare. Sheriff DuBois encourages his staff to be innovative and adapt to constant changes in Law Enforcement and Corrections. Orange County continues to be one of the fastest growing counties in New York State, and has a population of approximately 370,000 and an area of 835 square miles, and is located approximately 50 miles northwest of New York City.
